Autonomic Neuroscience (AN)
Journal Descriptions
Autonomic Neuroscience: Basic & Clinical is a long-running, peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to advancing knowledge of the autonomic nervous system through publication of original research, reviews and clinical studies. Established originally as the Journal of the Autonomic Nervous System in the late 1970s and retitled in 2000, the journal now operates under Elsevier’s imprint and publishes approximately 14 issues each year. It serves as the official publication of the International Society for Autonomic Neuroscience. The journal’s coverage spans fundamental and translational aspects of autonomic regulation — from cellular and molecular perspectives to systems-level physiology and clinical autonomic disorders. Topics include autonomic reflexes, cardiovascular and visceral autonomic control, neurochemical pathways, pharmacological modulation, developmental and aging processes in autonomic circuits, and dysfunctions linked with disease states. Its readership includes neuroscientists, physiologists, neurologists, cardiologists and clinicians interested in autonomic mechanisms and their relevance to human health. While the editorial leadership is under Roy Freeman of Harvard Medical School, editorial contacts and manuscript submissions are managed through Elsevier’s online journal systems. The journal is indexed in major scientific databases including MEDLINE/PubMed and reflects ongoing contributions to the field of autonomic neuroscience.
