Addiction publishes peer-reviewed research reports on pharmalogical and behavioural addictions, bringing together research conducted within many different disciplines. The publication is an official journal of the Society for the Study of Addiction, and has been in publication since 1884. Addiction is a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal established in 1903 by the Society for the Study of Addiction to Alcohol and other Drugs as the British Journal of Inebriety. It was renamed British Journal of Addiction to Alcohol & Other Drugs in 1947, then renamed to British Journal of Addiction in 1980, before finally obtaining its current name in 1993.[1] It covers research relating to the abuse of alcohol, illicit drugs, and tobacco, as well as behavioural addictions.[2] The editor-in-chief is John Marsden (King's College London). Addiction, a peer-reviewed journal, publishes top quality international research for a large and expanding readership. It offers a lively forum for debate with editorials, commentaries, interviews with leading figures in the field, and a comprehensive book review section. Addiction's scope spans human experimental, epidemiological, social science, historical, clinical and policy research relating to addiction, primarily but not exclusively in the areas of psychoactive substance use and/or gambling. In addition to original research, the journal features editorials, commentaries, reviews, letters, and book reviews.
