Journal Descriptions

Acta Theriologica was a peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to the study of mammalogy (the science of mammals). It focused on research involving the biology, ecology, evolution, physiology, behavior, and conservation of mammals. The journal served as an important platform for zoologists and wildlife researchers, especially those working in Europe and related biogeographical regions. The journal published original research articles, short communications, and review papers covering topics such as mammalian taxonomy, population dynamics, habitat studies, reproductive biology, and ecological interactions. It also included studies on endangered species conservation and environmental impacts on mammalian populations. Acta Theriologica was established in the mid-1950s and was published by the Polish Academy of Sciences. It played a significant role in advancing mammalogical research and contributed extensively to zoological literature for several decades. The journal was published in English to ensure international accessibility and scientific exchange. In later years, the journal was renamed and integrated into a newer publication titled Mammal Research, which continues its scientific legacy today. As a result, Acta Theriologica is now considered a historical journal but remains widely cited in zoological and ecological research.
