Acta Physica Slovaca (APS)

Acta Physica Slovaca is a scientific journal dedicated to the publication of research in physics, originally established under the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and later continued in Slovakia after the country’s independence. The journal has historically served as an important platform for physicists in Central Europe, particularly those working in Slovakia and neighboring regions. It publishes original research articles and review papers covering a broad spectrum of physics, including theoretical physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, particle physics, atomic and molecular physics, optics, and mathematical physics. During its early decades, the journal played a key role in promoting scientific communication in Eastern Europe, especially during the mid-20th century when regional academic publishing was developing independently from Western European journals. Over time, Acta Physica Slovaca evolved to include more internationally oriented contributions and expanded collaboration with global researchers. It has contributed significantly to the dissemination of Slovak and Central European physics research. In modern usage, it is often referenced as a historical journal, as much of its older content is archived, while newer physics journals from the region have taken over its role in international indexing systems. It remains an important part of the scientific publishing heritage of Slovakia.
