ACIMED was a well known Spanish language scholarly journal published in Cuba by the National Center of Information on Medical Sciences. The journal focused on medical informatics, health information management, scientific communication, digital libraries, and information systems in healthcare. It was established in 1996 and became one of the earliest Spanish language journals dedicated to the field of health information sciences in Latin America. The journal published original research articles, reviews, technical papers, and professional communications related to medical documentation, bibliometrics, information technologies in healthcare, evidence based medicine resources, and digital knowledge management. ACIMED played an important role in promoting collaboration among healthcare information professionals and librarians across Latin American countries. In 2013, the journal continued under the new title “Revista Cubana de Información en Ciencias de la Salud.” The publication has been indexed in several international databases and was recognized for contributing to the development of medical information sciences in the Spanish speaking academic community.
