You may be aware that Vanita Vishram is a 117 year old Institution, dedicated to promotion of women’s development and empowerment through education. This “only for women” organization runs a number of academic institutions that ranges from Kind ber of academic institutions that ranges from Kindergarten to Post Graduate courses both in English and Gujarati media, on ‘no-profit’ basis. It caters to the academic needs of middle and low socio economic strata of the society. Today its student strength is more than 15000 and it employs more than 500 teachers. It has a well equipped and fully secured hostel for 300 students Vanita Vishram was established on 15th May, 1907 on the auspicious day of “Akhatrij” by two widows, namely, Smt. Bajigauri D. Munshi and Smt. Shivgauri K. Gajjar. They founded the “Ashram” with their valuable savings of Rs. 2000. With the efforts of two social workers – Smt. Bajigauri D. Munshi and Smt. Shivgauri K. Gajjar, an ashram was established on 15th May, 1907 for the welfare of helpless widows, divorcees etc. Today it is recognized as Vanita Vishram Institution. It is the largest educational institution that caters to the needs of a girl child from pre-school to college education in just one campus. It is spread over 27 acres of land in the heart of the Surat. Started as a humble organization with the motto of “Empowerment of Women through Education”, “ Vanita Vishram ” has today become a large respected organization committed to the advancement of women of all ages by providing them opportunities for personal development, empowerment and rejuvenation in a conducive environment. It offers the best of facilities for education, vocational training, sports and self-employment to almost 15000 girl students every year. The organization has rendered un-parallel service to society by empowering thousands of women during the last 100 years of its existence. Thus it is certainly a role model in the area of empowerment and education of women. Today it occupies an eminent position as an institution working for the welfare of the women and will continue to strive to meet the aspirations of women in the years to come. In its 113 years long subsistence, Vanita Vishram has carved a niche for itself in the domain of academia and co-curricular activities. It has progressed in leaps and bounds. Through its 18 institutions, it takes care of the all-round development of more than 11,000 students.
