About S.J. Quinney College of Law
Within the walls of the S.J. Quinney College of Law, you’ll find stellar faculty, a diverse student body and outstanding, nationally-ranked programs in environmental law, health law and criminal law & intellectual property. And just outside thos & intellectual property. And just outside those walls? A bustling, picturesque campus, a booming, dynamic city with a robust music and food scene, and Utah's legendary outdoor recreation. The college is housed in an airy, expansive, LEED Platinum building that's consistently ranked among the best law school buildings in the nation. This state-of-the-art structure is the latest home for the venerable, tradition-rich school that first opened its doors in 1913. From the beginning, the college has been about breaking down walls and pushing boundaries. That legacy continues today as our students explore innovative ways to tackle critical issues like climate change, addiction, technology commercialization, global mediation and many others. Our research centers and programs produce cutting-edge scholarship, abundant student research opportunities, and collaborations across the nation. Centers and programs offer opportunities for faculty and students to collaborate on specialized research, engage with our community, and study in focused areas of expertise and interest. The school was established in 1913. It is a member of the Association of American Law Schools and is accredited by the American Bar Association.[4] The school is named after S.J. "Joe" Quinney (1893–1983), a Utah attorney who helped develop the Alta Ski Area. In 2019, Elizabeth Kronk Warner became the 12th dean of the S.J. Quinney College of Law. She is the first woman and Native American named to deanship in the college's history. The law school building is located in the south-west corner of the University of Utah campus, directly north of the Stadium light rail station and Rice–Eccles Stadium,[6] and approximately 2.5 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. The James E. Faust Law Library (formerly the S.J. Quinney Law Library) is integrated into the law school building. The first floor, parts of the second floor, and the sixth floor of the building are open to the public; materials located on upper floors can be retrieved for public patrons. ...view more
