About Training College for the Teachers of the Blind
The Training College for the Teachers of the Blind was established in the year 1981, and offers a degree in DED(VI). This course has been recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, and the examinations are conducted by Manipal University. The minations are conducted by Manipal University. The aim of this department is to educate and train Special Educators in the field of Visual Impairment, thus enabling them to teach students with Visual Impairment better and in a much more effective manner. This is a two year course and includes four semesters in all. The medium of instruction is Gujarati and each batch constitutes of 20 students. Trainees are provided with both, theoretical as well as practical learning here. Lectures, demonstrations, project work and participation in various community development programs are the different components of the course provided. Training in Braille and Mobility training are also provided. Various workshops and seminars pertaining to training of teachers are conducted by this department as well. The Co-ordinator of the department is Ms. Illa Panchal.
