The Department was established in 1949. It has the distinction of receiving funds from various sources such as IPCL (Centre for Studies in National and International Industrial Development, 1977), UGC (Department for Special Assistance during 1985-20 (Department for Special Assistance during 1985-2007), NITI Ayog (Centre for Research in Planning and Development (CPD), 1995), and UGC (ASIHSS programme 2005-2010). The Department of Economics provides students with quality educational experiences and support services that lead to the successful completion of degrees, certificates, career/technical education and basic skills proficiency. The department fosters academic and career success through the development of critical thinking, effective communication and creativity in a safe, accessible and affordable learning environment. In meeting the needs of our demographically diverse student population, we embrace equity and accountability through measurable learning outcomes, ethical data-driven decisions and student achievement. Under CPD, the department regularly organizes seminars; workshops etc and undertakes research projects and publication. The department apart from teaching programme from Undergraduate to Ph.d., offers a Self Finance Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies. The Department has Economic Society established in 1967 to foster students' innvolvement in various curricular and extracurricular activities. For the Post-Graduate students, the Department houses a library with a collection of more than 4000 books, journals, government reports and reading material on various courses, and also provides computer facility.The Department continuously strives towards : Creating a transformative educational experience for students focused on deep disciplinary knowledge; problem solving; leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
