About The Cochin College, Kochi
Kochi has been a hub of commercial activity from time immemorial. With the spread of universal education and the founding of a bunch of high schools in and around Kochi, the need for a college, for pursuing higher studies, was keenly felt here. It wa rsuing higher studies, was keenly felt here. It was in these circumstances that the erstwhile Municipality of Kochi and the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kochi, jointly took the lead, sponsored “The Cochin Education Society” and started The Cochin College. Thus, a long cherished wish of the public of Kochi was realized. The Cochin College today stands as a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of the citizens of Kochi. The Cochin College is one of the oldest Arts and Science colleges located in Kochi. Founded on 15 July 1967 as a junior college, the institution grew into a postgraduate college in 1995. In February 2012, the college was accredited by NAAC with B Grade (2.85). The Cochin College is sponsored by the Cochin Education Society which was founded as a result of the joint efforts of Indian Chamber of Commerce and the former Mattancherry Municipal Council. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
