Sultan Agung Islamic University

Sultan Agung Islamic University or Unissula was founded by the Sultan Agung Waqf Foundation (YBWSA) on 16 Dzulhijjah 1381 H which coincides with May 20, 1962 M. The name Sultan Agung was taken from the name of Sultan Agung who was one of the national e name of Sultan Agung who was one of the national heroes who had great services to the Indonesian nation. Sultan Agung had the full name Adi Prabu Hanyokrokusumo who was born in Kotagede, Mataram Sultanate in 1593. Sultan Agung was the third sultan of the Mataram Sultanate who ruled from 1613-1645. Under his leadership, the Mataram Sultanate developed into the largest kingdom in Java and the archipelago at that time. The selection of the name Sultan Agung as the name of the university is also inseparable from various thoughts, including that he was a great leader who loved his nation and country very much and was very persistent in fighting various colonialisms. Sultan Agung was a religious king with superior character who was able to implement religious life through cultural acculturation that could be accepted by the community. Therefore, it is not surprising that his services as a fighter and cultural figure led to the great name of Sultan Agung being designated as a national hero of Indonesia based on Presidential Decree No. 106/TK/1975 dated November 3, 1975. This basic idea makes it logical to use the name of Sultan Agung as the name of the university and through this name it is hoped that it will continue to ignite the spirit of struggle to build the nation through the world of education with Islamic values. As a leading Islamic University in building a generation of khaira ummah , developing science and technology based on Islamic values ​​and building Islamic civilization towards a prosperous society blessed by Allah SWT within the framework of rahmatan lil'alamin.
