Sorbonne Nouvelle University

The decree of March 21, 1970 is the first official text to mention the Sorbonne Nouvelle University . It would therefore seem that the history of the Sorbonne Nouvelle only begins in 1970. And yet, the teaching departments that constitute the core of e teaching departments that constitute the core of the fundamental existence of this apparently recent institution are the direct heirs of some of the many courses taught at the University of Paris from the beginning of the 19th century until 1969. The longevity of the university's history is thus broader than appearances suggest: it combines an eventful past with the construction of its own identity that allows it to carry out major institutional projects that will leave their mark on future generations. The history of the Sorbonne Nouvelle is above all the history of the old University of Paris and more particularly of its Faculty of Letters. The city of Paris has had an institution dedicated to higher education since the 13th century. The modern form of this institution was created by the decree of March 17, 1808 and organized by the order of March 6, 1809, under the name "University of Paris" organized into five faculties: the Faculty of Letters, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy.
