Vishvakalyan Society is a secular, charitable trust established in 1988 by a teacher couple and their son, a surgeon, to provide medical services to the tribal & backward districts of North Gujarat following self experience of agony due to non avail ollowing self experience of agony due to non availability of proper medical services in Idar and it compelled the family to shift Shardaba in critical condition to Ahmedabad. Its flagship project Atmavallabh Hospital was started as surgical clinic on 06-02-1991 in a rented building whichhas grown into amedical campus having 100 bed multi specialty hospital and blood bank.It aims to provide secondary health care especially surgical. To provide free primary health care we have a dispensary in base hospital and we run two mobile medical units covering 105 tribal villages. . We have added four vision centres recently for free primary eye care. We organise camps regularly and also run OP at Pratapur (180 Kilometres away from Idar) for surgical patients since 2001. Smt. Shardaba, a school teacher, had heart attack. Though her son Dr. Dinesh, a Surgeon, was Superintendent of Community Health center, Idar because of non – availability of facilities in Idar, she was shifted to Ahmedabad in critical condition and was saved. This incident moved the whole family and they decided to make a modern charitable hospital in Idar to serve the needy following preechings of Bhagvan Mahavir “Service of sick, poor, distressed, oppressed, disabled and helpless human or animal is service to God” A charitable trust was registered in 1988. Smt. Shardaba and her husband donated their provident fund to establish the hospital and Dr. Dinesh dedicated his life to serve in it.
