Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery is a graduate medical academic degree which is awarded after successful completion of a five and a half years program or course that covers the study of the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional tegrated system of modern medicine and traditional ayurveda. The full 5.5 years duration of the degree includes one year of internship also. The degree course covers the study of modern anatomy, physiology, principles of medicine, social and preventive medicine, pharmacology, toxicology, forensic medicine, botany, ENT, principles of surgery, etc. along with ayurvedic topics. Ayurvedacharya recognition is given to the recipient of a Bachelor's Degree of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (B.A.M.S) and the degree holders can use the title Vaidyar before their name (abbreviated as Vr). Ayurveda means "the science of life" (ayur means "life" and Veda means "science" in Sanskrit). Ayurveda is a discipline of the upaveda or "auxiliary knowledge" in Vedic tradition. Ayurveda has its prime origin from Atharva-Veda and apart as a supplement of the Rig-Veda. Dhanvantari is worshipped as the God of Ayurveda. The aim of this system is to prevent illness, heal the sick and preserve life. The Ayurveda has its origins from the India and extended its wings in various parts of the world. Ayurveda was taught in Gurukula system in ancient days, which is now been evolved in to under graduate & post graduate courses from Institutions. Shri V. M. Mehta Institute of Ayurveda strives to be an excellent Educational Body which guides, develops and sustains a network of 'Institutions of Excellence' in education meeting the national needs for global trends and to regulate the practice of Indian System of Medicine. To establish, guide, develop and sustain through resource allocation, good governance and management, dedicated to the maintenance of standards and quality of academic study programmes and practice of Indian System of Medicine to national as well as global needs. Looking to the growing popularity of Ayurveda in foreign Countries the University has taken responsibility to work as a nodal agency for propagation of Ayurveda, globally. The University has designed courses in Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ayurvedic Medicinal Plant Sciences and Yoga & Naturopathy. Foreign students from various countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America are attending the short term & long term courses and clinical training in different departments of the University. ...view more
