School of Environmental Sciences The School of Environmental Sciences (SES) was established by the University in 1995 as a centre of learning for advanced studies in environmental sciences with the goal of integrating various aspects of environment goal of integrating various aspects of environmental issues and paying special attention to the frontier areas of environmental sciences. It is one of the premier departments for cutting-edge research and academics in environmental sciences at Mahatma Gandhi University. The School became a statutory department of the university in the year 2000 and bought its building on the campus in 2007. The principal mandate of the School is to provide the tools and talent necessary for environmental protection, preventing pollution, managing natural resources sustainably, and conserving the environment. In 1996, the school launched its first M.Sc. degree program in Environmental Management, which was later revamped and renamed to MSc. Environment Science and Management in 2001. In 2006 the school started a Master's programme in Disaster Management later renamed to MSc. Environment Science and Disaster Management. A new MSc programme in Applied Geology was initiated under the Department of Geology of the school in 2022. The academic programmes of the school have been evaluated, altered and updated on a regular basis while keeping in mind the need for more focus, the knowledge that is readily available at any given moment, and the adjustments that need to be made to the curricula of specific courses or programs. The School has diversified interests in various fields of earth and environmental sciences and has established various centres and research programmes allied to the subjects. It has established a Centralized Remote Sensing and GIS facility, the first of its kind in a University in the state, with the support of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The School has a live laboratory named "Jeevaka" which consists of areas with rich biodiversity within the Mahatma Gandhi University Campus.
