About School of Economics, Addis Ababa University
Environment for Development (EfD) is a global network of environmental economics research centers solving the world’s most pressing environmental and development challenges. We contribute to the effective management of the environment in the Global ective management of the environment in the Global South through policy-relevant research, capacity development, and policy engagement. EfD was established in 2007 and today, the network consists of over 200 accomplished environmental economists based in the Global South, with many different specializations. EfD centers are hosted by leading local academic research institutions at 11 locations across the Global South: Chile, Central America, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam. The EfD Global Hub, located at the School of Business, Economics, and Law, University of Gothenburg, Sweden coordinates the network. Financial support is provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and others. EfD’s vision Inclusive sustainable development in the Global South is founded on evidence-based management of the environment, natural resources, and climate change impacts. EfD’s overarching objective EfD contributes to evidence-based domestic and international policies for poverty reduction, environmental and resource management, and climate change impacts in the Global South through integrated capacity development, research, and policy engagement.
