About School of Behavioural Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU)

School of Behavioural Sciences, established in 1988, has a variety of unique higher education programmes aimed at developing human resources in the field of disability rehabilitation and mental health to uplift the weaker sections of society. In Indi to uplift the weaker sections of society. In India, we have many National Institutes established for the care of each of the disabilities. School of Behavioural Sciences is one of the first university departments in India that started academic programmes in this field and addressed the problems and issues of all disabilities under a single roof with a holistic nature in the 1980s. Educational programmes offered by the School are interdisciplinary. Scholars undertake research projects on various topics in Disability Rehabilitation, Psychology, Special Education, Mental Health, Behavioural Medicine and Rehabilitation Nursing. Faculty members engage in teaching and research in their respective areas of specialization. With their initiative, the School’s teaching faculty started centres to expand activities and advance knowledge production. Currently, the Inter-University Centre for Disability Studies [IUCDS], the Institute of Research in Learning Disabilities (IRLD) and the Department of Indian Sign Language (ISLD) are functioning in the School. The books and journal publications at national and international levels, various projects, and collaborations with multiple agencies/institutions make the School an emerging centre of excellence in this field. The student community under the School has the benefit of exposure to resource persons through special lectures, seminars and international visiting faculties attending the department. Training in statistical packages and research methodology-oriented courses make the students efficient. Advanced library facilities, smart classrooms, video-conferencing state-of-the-art laboratories, field training under reputed national and international agencies.. etc., make teaching-learning more student-friendly and effective.
