Shree Lalshankar Umiyashankar Arts and Harivadan and Padmaben Thakore Commerce College for Women is one of the oldest women’s colleges of Gujarat and the oldest women’s college of Ahmedabad. It stands witness to the efforts of social reformers and visionaries who dreamt of expanding the horizons of women through higher education. Shree Lalshankar Umiyashankar Arts and Harivadan and Padmaben Thakore Commerce College for Women was founded in 1920 by Gujarat Stree Kelavani Mandal. It has the proud privilege of being the first women’s college in Ahmedabad and one of the first women’s college in the state of Gujarat. Established by social reformers with the vision to empower women with higher education, the college is catering to girls from diverse backgrounds desiring education in a setup exclusively for women. Today, as many as 1500 students take a variety of courses from the college every year and have ample opportunity to develop their potential. It is a grant-in-aid college affiliated to the Gujarat University, offering degrees in Arts(including Home Science) and Commerce to girls through the Gujarati and English medium. Along with basic degrees, students can pursue add-on career oriented certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses-approved by the UGC and the Gujarat University. Skill oriented certificate, diploma courses; remedial courses and IT courses are also offered.
