About Prevention Collaborative
The Prevention Collaborative is a group of longtime practitioners and researchers who came together to better connect local and global knowledge to prevent violence against women and their children. We wanted to create a new type of organisation—on e wanted to create a new type of organisation—one that is values driven, virtual, and agile—where individuals could pursue their passion and bring their whole selves to work, unconstrained by the institutional rules that regulate most organisations. WHAT UNITES US IS OUR COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL JUSTICE AND MAKING THE WORLD SAFER AND MORE EMPOWERING FOR WOMEN AND FOR THE NEXT GENERATION. The Collaborative’s current focus is on reducing violence against women and their children, with an emphasis on preventing intimate partner violence and children experiencing harsh discipline in the home. As our capacity as an organisation grows, we will expand our work to include other types of violence. We believe that patriarchy, rigid gender norms, and unequal power between individuals are central to understanding violence against women and their children. We embrace intersectional feminism and recognise that women and gender diverse individuals often face multiple forms of oppression, making them especially vulnerable to violence and abuse. WE DO THE SEARCHING, SORTING, AND SYNTHESISING SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO. WE HELP STRENGTHEN CAPACITY TO DESIGN AND DELIVER QUALITY PROGRAMMES Through training, mentoring, and advisory services, we equip actors to shift norms, empower individuals, mobilise communities, and transform the social and structural factors that underpin violence. Our Learning Lab offers a variety of self-paced and facilitated courses, designed for those working in the field of violence against women (VAW) prevention. Rooted in the latest evidence and designed for adult learners, our courses focus on connecting learners/participants with their colleagues around the world. A key aspect of our courses is to enable reflection and learning from experience. We believe that practical knowledge and skills contribute to improved programming. Courses are designed with practitioner input and feedback ensuring that they are focused on their needs. This means that our courses are constantly evolving to stay up to date on the latest in effective violence prevention. “I REALLY LEARNED A LOT, ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF CONTENT DELIVERY, HOW I CAN MAKE MY PROGRAMMING BETTER AND A BIG PART OF IT WAS THROUGH THE CHAT AND GETTING IDEAS FROM DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND WORKING OUT HOW TO TRANSLATE THAT TO MY TEAMS.” LEARNING LAB COURSE PARTICIPANT All of our courses are free and we prioritise NGO staff. There are a variety of formats to meet different needs and schedules, so sign up today to learn more about effective violence prevention. If you want a more tailored course for your organisation’s specific needs, contact us. We engage with partners through strategic advisory services that contribute to our mission. We typically engage in longer term relationships that focus on capacity strengthening for VAW prevention. However, we also engage in shorter assignments where we feel we can add specific value to an organisation’s work on prevention. This partnership with Jhipego Nigeria focused on strengthening the capacity of their VAW prevention work. We worked with them to help strengthen their partners’ understanding and application of essential concepts in VAW prevention. We provided support for their co-design process which will lead to an evidence-based approach to VAW prevention that will reach thousands of people in two states of Nigeria. Since 2019, we have worked in partnership with UN Women Asia Pacific to strengthen the capacity of their staff and partners on VAW prevention. This has included collaborative work on prevention programme design and evaluation, including integrating behaviour change and social norms change approaches. We also co-developed a regional UN Women VAW prevention strategy as well as a VAW prevention strategy for UN Women India. We piloted a virtual workshop series to roll out the RESPECT implementation package in Bangladesh, India and Nepal and also delivered a series of interactive webinars and workshops for UN Women staff and partners in the region on different prevention approaches. We also developed evidence and practice briefs on different prevention approaches. The Cluster Programme aims to strengthen organisations’ capacity to develop and implement effective VAW and/or VAC prevention programmes in low resource environments in a collaborative learning setting. The programme brings together 4 to 6 organisations with similar interests over a six month period. ...view more
