Department of Sociology, Sambalpur University

The department of Sociology has got carved out as an independent department after the bifurcation of the department of “Social anthropology” in the year 1991. The department has evolved over the years having both disciplinary and interdisciplinar ears having both disciplinary and interdisciplinary orientations. Even at the M.A. level the department has a well-coordinated programme with a blend of theoretical learning and empirical research. This has led the department to make fieldwork as an integral part of the M.A. programme. Promoting the spirit of critical enquiry among the students remains one of the core commitments.
