People Institute of Management Studies (PiMS) was the brainchild of the vision and foresight of the late Adv. P. Raghavan (1945-2022), a former legislator of the Kerala Legislative Assembly (1991-2001) and a keen nurturer of infrastructure in the edu ) and a keen nurturer of infrastructure in the education sector in the backward Kasaragod district of Kerala. PiMS was established in the year 2009 with the noble vision of imparting a high quality, value-oriented MBA, adding the best skills in students and prepare them for a future in leadership. In its 13 years since inception, the institute is now enviably placed as the only self-financed B-school in Kasaragod. Sandwiched between the south Canara educational hub of Mangalore and its environs and the prosperous Central Kerala to the south, the institute has been uniquely placed in a rural backward setting to give aspiring managers a different perspective towards life and nature. Located within the sprawling educational hamlet EMS Aksharagramam, spread over a magnificent 35 acres of rural hinterland in the eastern reaches of Kasaragod district, PIMS offers regular full-time MBA programs across five areas of specialization (Marketing, Finance, HR, Banking & Insurance and Tourism) under Kannur University, and is approved and recognized by the AICTE. PiMS stands proudly among the elite few self-financed B-schools in India that offer MBA courses for the poorest of the poor. The tuition fees charged at PiMS is comparable to that of Government colleges, and is specifically focused on economic upliftment of poor students, backward communities (OBC/SC/ST) and the ushering in of social justice through high-quality professional education. Yet, in terms of infrastructure and facilities such as air-conditioned classrooms, seminar halls, gymnasium, recreational spaces, library and labs, it is second to none and enjoys parity with the best B-Schools of Kerala. PiMS has adopted a novel academic rubric based on the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. The objective of the dynamic academic curriculum adopted by PiMS is in formulating an andragogy that imbibes factual, conceptual, procedural and metacognitive knowledge in budding managers allowing them to remember, understand, apply, analyze and evaluate the dynamic market environment while fostering opportunities to create original and new innovations that can radically alter the marketplace. The teacher-student interchange is that the focus of this andragogy which is goal oriented in outlook, with clarity of purpose and an instruction method that is novel and experiential to provide a learning for a lifetime.
