About University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Public Health (CPH)
The University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Public Health (previously the Center for Public Health Initiatives) is a university-wide center which was founded in 2007 by the Provost’s Office. We promote interdisciplinary research, education, and p omote interdisciplinary research, education, and practice in public health. The Founding Director of CPHI was Dr. Marjorie Bowman. Our previous Executive Director was Jennifer Pinto Martin and the current Executive Director is Dr. Rich Wender. The University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Public Health’s mission is to educate and train new and emerging public health leaders, foster multi-disciplinary collaborations, and promote excellence in public health research and community partnerships. To achieve this mission, we: Support and foster growth of our world-class, multidisciplinary Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program Provide high quality learning opportunities, seminars and institutes for students, faculty, alumni, and practitioners Foster the application of evidence-based approaches and experiences in public health, emphasizing translation of science into sustainable health improvements in communities Facilitate collaboration for public health related research, involving faculty in multiple existing centers, institutes, and departments across the university The Center for Public Health (CPH) is a university-wide center founded in 2007 by the Provost’s Office. We promote interdisciplinary research, education, and practice in public health. CPH aims to create a public health home for scholars, trainees, and community partners at Penn. The Public Health Pipeline Plus program is a longitudinal summer internship for high school students, facilitated by the Center for Public Health and the Netter Center for Community Partnerships. This program allows Philadelphia high school students interested in health related careers to expand their knowledge in Public Health through classroom learning and fieldwork activities. On October 31 in collaboration with Penn Libraries, the Penn Center for Public Health Seminar Series hosted Tracie Hall, the former Executive Director of the American Library Association. In her talk, “Access Matters: A conversation with Tracie Hall on the Impacts of Book Censorship”, Tracie led a critical discussion on the multifaceted impact of censorship and information access on public health. We educate and train public health leaders and practitioners, foster multi-disciplinary collaboration, and promote excellence in public health research and community partnerships.
