Peet Memorial Training College

The Peet Memorial Training College, Mavelikara was founded in 1960 by the Madhya Kerala Diocese of Church South India in memory of the Rev. Joseph Peet, who was one of the leading missionaries, sent by the CMS to South India. He came to Mavelikara in y the CMS to South India. He came to Mavelikara in 1836 not only to spread the gospel, but also to uplift the downtrodden. He was mainly instrumental in popularising education in the area. Brief history of the college Rev. Joseph Peet’s vision was focused on different areas like promotion of holistic development of students, human rights and justice, women empowerment and social upliftment by eradicating castism and untouchability and through women’s education and vocational education. The vision of this great philanthropist has been adopted as the vision of the college. The college has been rendering service in the field of teacher education by offering Degree course in Education (B.Ed.) in 6 subjects- English, Commerce, Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Science and Social Science. There is also an M.Ed. Course (Unaided), the number of seats of which has been raised from the initial twelve to twenty five. The college is a Private aided minority educational institution, affiliated to the University of Kerala, recognised by the University Grants Commission and the National Council for Teacher Education and accredited by NAAC. The college is governed by a management board under the chairmanship of Rt. Rev. Thomas K. Oommen, Deputy Moderator and Bishop of Madhya Kerala Diocese of Church of South India. For the last 55 years the college has occupied a prominent place among teacher education colleges in Kerala and has consistently maintained an excellent academic record. The staff strength is 23 with 11 teachers (including Principal) and 11 non-teaching staff members.
