About NSS Hindu College, Changanassery
NSS Hindu College, Changanassery, the earliest among the institutions of Higher education was established by the Nair Service Society in 1947. Its history, ever since its inception has been a story of rapid and steady expansion. The institution's pri rapid and steady expansion. The institution's primary goal is to provide young men and women with a liberal education. The college aims at producing intellectually well-trained, morally upright, and socially committed young minds in nation-building. The college has broadened its academic offerings to students from all throughout the State. The college is re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, an autonomous agency of the UGC, with ‘A’ Grade on 27th November 2017. The NSS High School building in Perunna served as the college's first home. In July 1949 Sri Panampally Govinda Menon, the Minister for Education at the time, laid the foundation stone of the massive structure which houses the college at present on the extensive piece of land adjoining the NSS Head Quarters. In January 1956 the formal opening of the college building was held with a fortnight-long celebration, inaugurated by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the Vice-President of India at the time, and the college building was declared open by Sri. K.M. Munshi, the then Governor of Uttar Pradesh. At present, the college offers 14 Undergraduate courses, 11 Postgraduate Courses, Add-on courses, and Certificate programmes. There are ten approved research centres attached to the Departments of English, Hindi, Malayalam, History, Politics, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Zoology. It is a matter of great pride that the NAAC peer team has observed that the college has great potential to be an autonomous institution.
