National Coir Research & Management Institute (NCRMI)

NCRMI an organization spearheading various R&D projects in the traditional segment of Coir was established in 1994, under the name C-DOCT to cater the varied needs of coir sector of Kerala. It is registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary Scient stered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1956. NCRMI have been conducting studies for the development of new coir technologies in collaboration with similar research organizations across the country and even at the International level. Later in 2003, Govt. decided to elevate C-DOCT to the standard of the national institute viz. “National Coir Research & Management Institute (NCRMI)” to facilitate comprehensive research on coconut fibre and allied products. This Institute would eventually become a centre of excellence for R&D, consultancy and knowledge propagation on coir sector. The organization is controlled by the Governing body consisting of 21 members who are eminent personalities with proven track record in relevant field of R&D, Industry, Academic etc. The chairman of the Governing body is the Honourable Minister for Finance and Coir. Besides the Governing body, the State Level R& D advisory Committee of NCRMI engaged in conceiving, formulating and implementing different projects in the respective field. Both the above committees have successfully implemented various projects eventually benefiting this traditional sector. “Ensuring an appropriate place for the golden fiber and the stakeholders of the sector in all walks of life, and to constantly pursue innovations and improvements in coconut fiber and coconut fiber related products through continuous research, education, training and extensive application”. “To act as a nodal agency for coordinating the technological, commercial and academic developments in the entire gamut of activities related to the coconut fiber sector in Kerala and emerge as a Center of Excellence, for R&D, Industrial consulting and Knowledge dissemination, Globally”. ...view more
