The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is a vibrant organization for dynamic collaboration. Home to four departments — Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematical Sciences, and Physics — MCS also hosts many programs and research centers that cro hosts many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We are innovators and forward-thinkers. Our alumni and faculty have invented materials and processes that have made a profound impact, such as Kevlar® and CyDyesTM. A new partnership to build the world’s first academic cloud lab with an alumni-led company is fostering an environment where science is accessible, reliable and limited only by ideas. A Mellon College of Science education prepares our graduates to thrive in the 21st-century scientific and social world they will face and shape. Our innovative Core Education fosters student growth in four dimensions—scholar, professional, citizen, and person—to give students a multi-dimensional undergraduate experience. In this cross-college, undergraduate program, DASIE is executed through partnerships with Dow Chemical and Microsoft and brings together students from outside of Carnegie Mellon University to build a pipeline of future science leaders with advanced data skills and to bring awareness of opportunities that exist at CMU, the partner organizations and the industry as a whole. Another cross-college initiative, HPP provides preparation and advising for students from a wide variety of majors across the university to help them pursue interests in medicine, dentistry, and other health-related professions. ...view more
