About Master of Public Health (MPH), IIPHG
The Master of Public Health (MPH) program offered by Indian Institute of Public Health is a 2 years on-campus, fulltime course. Our Master’s degree in Public Health, trains students to improve the general health of the population — of individuals eneral health of the population — of individuals, communities, countries and the world. Since Public Health is a multi-disciplinary field, we invite graduates from a range of backgrounds to apply to our course The program at IIPHG is designed to equip students with a wide breadth of public health knowledge through a wide range of compulsory and elective courses. The short internship and longer dissertation exposures, facilitated through numerous partnerships that the institute has nurtured over the years, give students the opportunities to experience key public health spheres in India. Students are mentored to apply classroom learnings, to reflect upon their observations and findings, and to read relevant theory to deepen their classroom learning in specific real-life public health contexts. Public health is a multi-disciplinary program and our Master’s program invites applications from a variety graduates resulting in a diverse and rich classroom environment. IIPHG is a pioneer institute in public health education, training, research and advocacy. The institute has been recognized as the first public health university in India (under IIPHG Act, 2015, of Gujarat State). IIPHG has a number of collaborations and MoUs for research, and projects with organizations of repute in India and abroad. IIPHG has partnered with various central government organizations like ICMR, DST, DBT, IMD, and numerous state governments to give students a dynamic learning experience. The curriculum offers students the possibility to develop a scientific approach and a good theoretical understanding of the various topics that comprise the discipline of Public Health Science. Students must complete 80 credits to acquire the MPH degree. Most of these, 62 credits are for compulsory courses, 6 for elective courses and 22 for field work during Internship and Dissertation. Dissertation This is a compulsory course of 16 credits. It provides fundamental knowledge and skills for conceptualizing, designing and executing various types of research studies with focus on public health. The course compels the students to integrate their skills learnt from courses such as research methodology, epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, health financing, health management, health communication, and knowledge learnt from courses such as social determinants of health, gender and health, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, surveillance, health policy and health systems, public health laws, nutrition, etc. and so on, and gain a holistic view of research methods. The course methodology includes lectures, group exercises in the class, home assignments and presentations in class. The students will be encouraged to utilize the course assignments to work towards their dissertation so that they have a practical experience of the entire research process.
