Smt. Kasturbai Walchand College of Arts & Science, Sangli, is established on 1960 and permanently affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It is one of the progressively growing branches of Latthe Education Society, Sangli and imparting knowledge Education Society, Sangli and imparting knowledge to the masses of the area. It is established in heritage building with clean and green campus. It has both Senior as well as Junior Wing. The College is one of the leading colleges of the Shivaji University jurisdiction. The College was awarded by the UGC New Delhi as a “College with Potential for Excellence”. It is located in the heart of the city. To facilitate teaching and learning, the college is having good infrastructural facilities with four floored building. The ICT enabled classrooms and Seminar Halls, well equipped laboratories, separate building for department of sports and physical education, Indoor Stadium, Outdoor sports facilities, Ladies Hostels, a big auditorium, separate building for department of Chemistry, Computer Science, Microbiology and Biotechnology etc are the strengths of this college.The college is having rich library with renowned facilities of OPAC and Library on the Web as well Keeping pace with the Vision and Mission of the institution, along with the Graduation Programs in Arts and Science faculties, the college has introduced Post Graduate Programs and Research Programs as well. The College offers the programs such as B.A., B.Sc. B.Sc.(Biotechnology Entire) and B.Sc.(Computer Science Entire) etc at Undergraduate Level. The departments such as Physics, Electronics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Marathi, Hindi, English, Psychology, History, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics etc are promisingly contributing to ensure excellence in the quality education. The College runs 17 Post Graduate Programs out of which 8 are of Arts and 9 are of Science faculty. Innovative programmes such as M.Sc. Embedded Technology, M.Sc. Data Science, M.Sc. Microbiology, M.Sc. Biotechnology etc are introduced in the college to keep pace with the global needs. Moreover, the college is having recognized Research Laboratories and Research Guides as well. The faculty members of the college are working as Chairman/Members of various Bodies and Authorities of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur and contributing to curriculum enrichment. The college is having 30 faculty members with Ph.D. degree and 09 recognized Research Guides. The faculty members of this college are engaged in research activities and undertaken research projects of various agencies such as ISRO, DST, DBT, UGC etc. Significant number of research papers have been published through peer reviewed journals of international relevance. To expose the students and faculty members to the recent developments, college is frequently organizing conferences and seminars of National level. It is proposed to introduce the special chapter of NPTEL and SWAYAM in the college. The “Kasturi Lab”, emphasizing Soil analysis, Water analysis, Plant Tissue analysis and Fertilizer analysis etc, is one of Outreach Programs of the college. It provides consultation services to the agriculturists of the area as well. The training and placement cell is playing vital role in arranging placement camps. The NSS, NCC, Cultural and Sports departments of the college is dedicatedly engaged in personality development of the students. Department of Sports has inculcated sports culture not only in the college but university jurisdiction as well.
