About Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University

The Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University stands for imparting education leading to graduate and post graduate degrees and research degrees viz. M.Phil. and PhD in Sanskrit and research degrees only in Ancient Studies . At the s esearch degrees only in Ancient Studies . At the same time, with the provision of the Act, the university was supposed to introduce academic programmes in Humanities, Social Sciences as well as other disciplines as per societal requirements. The University was set up with a notification by the Government of Assam dated May 24th, 2011, of the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University Act, 2011. The preamble of the Act states that by this Act, the Government of Assam goes to establish and constitute a teaching, affiliating , research and residential University at Nalbari ,” the Headquarters of the district of Nalbari, Assam. Kumar Bhaskar Varma, a great monarch of Assam (7th century A.D) was a patron of Sanskrit studies and during his rule Vedic culture and Sanskritic knowledge came to flourish in Assam. The campus of the University is developed at Namati Village of Batahgila Mouza under Nalbari Revenue Circle of the district of Nalbari, Assam – 781337. The University stands for imparting education leading to graduate and post graduate degrees and research degrees viz. M.Phil. and Ph. D. in Sanskrit and only research degrees in Ancient Studies . At the same time ,with the provision of the Act , the university is going to introduce academic programmes in Humanities ,Social Sciences as well as other disciplines as per societal requirements. The University has adopted a Kalidasean line meaning “may the sayings of the wise be glorified”, as its motto. Knowledge is an eternal entity and dissemination of knowledge is what a university stands for. The motto is inscribed on a wrapped sheet of paper at the middle of the emblem. The quill used as writing pen even till a few decades ago and the two burning earthen lights indicate the process of learning, which is as pure and bright as the sun, inscribed at the centre. The five concentric circles be taken to suggest that knowledge/ learning can be had of with the five organs, both sensory as well as cognitive. Moreover the shade of saffron colour spreading towards the circumference is an indication that knowledge is meant for expansion with no boundary at all, the fact applicable in regard to the purpose of a University. To become a substantial contributor towards making a society of people enlightened with knowledge which is pure and eternal. To carry on continuous effort for building the University an important and singular one of its genres by way of dissemination of knowledge with concerted thrust upon extracting the best of potentialities inherent in every individual.
