Inception/ History/ Origin/ Establishment: Post-Graduate Department of Chemistry was established in 1953 with late Prof. K.S. Nargund as its founder Chairman. The Department acquired infrastructure for research under the leadership of Prof. S. Siddap r research under the leadership of Prof. S. Siddappa who led the Department till 1973. Development: The Department was recognized by the UGC-New Delhi under its Special Assistance Programme SAP-I in early 1990s. This program in three phases along with COSIST, DST (FIST- I) programmes provided modern instrumentation facilities for research work. The Department has produced a large number of Ph.Ds and Research Publications in peer reviewed International Journals of high impact factors. Recent Past: Faculty members of the Department expanded their research work through Commonwealth (5), Raman (1), Indo-Hungarian (2), DAAD (1), Brain pool (1) and IKY (1) Fellowships during 2006-2016, Exchange programmes and organizing National and International Conferences (2009, 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021). Faculty members have won awards and recognitions as fellows of State Science Academy (KSTA) and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC -UK). Current/ Present Status:. It is a matter of pride that the Department has ventured to start skill oriented “Analytical Chemistry” at M.Sc. Course in the year, 2019-20. The Department has contributed immensely to the UGC-UPE institution level funding programs viz., CPEPA, DST-PURSE and SAIF (2013-2019) and continues to shine hard for the progress of the University. VISION To strengthen multi-disciplinary, technology-enabled education;promote research for innovation and excellence; train students as responsiblefuture citizenswho will strive towards creating a sustainable society. MISSION To deliver outcome-based quality education, emphasizing experiential learning with state-of-the-art infrastructure. To create a conducive environment for multi-disciplinary research and innovation. To develop professionals through holistic education focusing on all round growth, discipline, ethics, and social sensitivity. To nurture industry-institution collaboration leading to competency enhancement and entrepreneurship. To strengthen the adoption of technology ensuring a sustainable and inclusive society, benefiting all sections of the society. To adopt and strengthen e-governance for time-bound delivery of educational services.
