Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is a public institution located in Allendale, Michigan, established in 1960 to meet the need for a four-year college in the state's second-largest metropolitan area. The university's mission is to empower learners a. GVSU offers over 200 areas of study, including 82 undergraduate majors and 36 graduate programs, encompassing disciplines such as liberal arts, business, health professions, and education. The university operates multiple campuses: the main campus in Allendale spans 1,322 acres; the Robert C. Pew Grand Rapids campus covers 65 acres; and the Health Campus occupies 14.5 acres in Grand Rapids' Medical Mile area. As of fall 2023, GVSU enrolled approximately 19,243 undergraduate students. The university's athletic teams, known as the Lakers, compete in NCAA Division II sports and have secured 28 national championships. In the 2025 edition of Best Colleges, GVSU is ranked #244 among National Universities.
