The Government Peripheral Hospital at Annanagar was started in the year 1979 with 100 beds to reduce the overcrowding in the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and situated at the periphery. General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetr Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments with Radiology and Microbiology units were initially established. In 1986 the Department of Digestive Health Diseases was started. In 1994 the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology was started. This is one of the oldest blocks built in the year………… The plinth area is ………..sqmeter in the ground floor and ………………..sqmtr I the first floor. It houses the departments of Biochemistry, Physiology and Pathology. There is a large museum which houses very rare specimens. It also has four lecture theatres with the seating capacity of 100 each and three laboratories. The famous PANAGAL HALL is one of the oldest building constructed and named after its founder. It is the centre stage for the various Academic sessions routinely conducted by the different departments. Government Kilpauk Medical College (GKMC) is a government medical institution in Chennai, India. Founded in 1960, there are four hospitals attached to GKMC - Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. They are Government Royapettah Hospital, Government Thiruvotteeswarar Hospital of Thoracic Medicine, Government Peripheral Hospital, K.K.Nagar and Government Peripheral Hospital, Anna Nagar. The college is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. It offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The hospital is the third in the government sector, after the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and the Government Royapettah Hospital, to have a full-fledged emergency department, which includes triage area, resuscitation bay and colour-coded zones, per the Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency Care Initiative (TAEI) guidelines.[1] The hospital is recognised as a level II trauma care centre. The zero-delay ward of the hospital receives an average of 40 to 50 cases every day.
