About GD Modi College of Arts
The College of Arts (a grant-in-aid institution), is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of Banaskantha and was started in 1964 with only 100 students, when there was not a single degree college in this economically and educationally ee college in this economically and educationally backward district. The college was renamed in 1984 as G.D. Modi College of Arts (GDMCA). There has been a consistent rise in the student strength every year. Presently, the total number of students in the college is 2350. The college offers four core compulsory subjects (English, Gujarati, Economics, and Sanskrit) and several other subjects for the B.A. Degree (Hindi, History, Philosophy & Political Science) and also offers two core compulsory subjects and one inter disciplinary subject at the M.A. Degree (English and Gujarati) level. The institution tries to keep pace with the changing educational scenario by adding classrooms as required and introducing technological devices like LCD projectors and sound systems to assist learning. The college has a well-equipped language laboratory where the SCOPE programme is being run and the BISAG Facility enables students to watch lectures of various experts on T.V The college has a very good library stocked with a large number of books on various subjects; as well as e-learning resources like INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network Center) and N-LIST. There is a separate research library facility as well. The faculty of the college comprises, in the main, of professors who have received their doctorates; they actively participate in seminars and conferences in India and abroad and contribute regularly to publications as well as undertake research. The institute has taken initiatives to start the process of placement of the final year students of all group institutes under this trust at a massive scale. Apart from involving the internal faculties from the respective disciplines, experts and trainers from other technical/professional institutes and from the field have been invited to impart the requisite knowledge and skills to the students to prepare them to face the interviews for appropriate jobs in the industries. A placement team consisting of qualified professionals has been set up and is functioning in the process of placement. The team has started interacting with the prospective employers/recruiters, who are expected to visit the campus. Invitations have been extended to leading corporate organizations and industries for conducting campus recruitment which includes pre-placement talks and interviews. The Management has stepped forward to frame out long term strategies to develop and strengthen Institute-Industries Relationship.
