About Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU), Lucknow
Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) is a university which offers programmes of education, research and training in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts & Crafts and similar programmes as per the the centra rafts and similar programmes as per the the central Government's consultation with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Earlier it was known as Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) and it's name was changed during 2009-2010 and there were seemingly political motives behind the change of name, mainly being - favouring the Dalit Buddhists for votes by Mayawati government. UPTU was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 8th May 2002 vide Act No. 1248(2) XVII-V-I-I-19-2000 Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam Sankhya 23 of 2000. However, it started functioning by August 2008 from it's campus at Greater Noida. But by 2013, with the change in the government GBTU was combined to form the former Uttar Pradesh Technical University along with Mahamaya Technical University on January 5, 2013. The name of bifurcated universities is still in use and the presence of Mahamaya Technical University website shows that the process of combining is under way as of July 2015. The University is funded by the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNOIDA). It is affiliating in nature and its jurisdiction spans the entire state of U.P. in affiliating B.Tech., M.B.A., M.C.A., B.Arch., B. Pharma., B.H.M.C.T., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes in 238 colleges/institutions imparting graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level training in all government and private institutions located all over U.P. in various technical fields. GBTU is one of the largest technical universities not only in India but perhaps in Asia. Because of its gigantic size and number of colleges affiliated to it and geographic dispersion, it has been sub-divided into five zones with 45-50 colleges in each zone for the ease of management and facilitating inter-zonal comparison and possible internal competition to enhance quality of teaching-learning processes. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under UGC Act and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. It's campus is spread over 511 acres with about 54000 plus sqm of constructed area, and 30% green belt. GBTU conducts the State level Entrance Examination - U.P.-S.E.E. for admission to various programs affiliated to GBTU. It also conducts central examinations each semester for all the affiliated colleges and institutions. Medium of instructions and examinations is English. Its upcoming NOIDA Centre and Regional office will facilitate closer academic and industrial interaction around that zone where a prominent cluster of private affiliated colleges exists. It's M.Tech. and M.Pharm. Programmes in various disciplines at different institutions and of Mahamaya Technical University, Noida. have been approved by AICTE. ...view more
