About Faculty of Sports Journalism and Mass Media Technology, Swarnim Gujarat Sports University(SGSU)
The Department of Sports Journalism and Mass Media technology started in the year 2016. The Department runs one year P G Diploma course in Sports Journalism and Mass Media Technology. The courses aim to impart journalistic skills to the students, pro to impart journalistic skills to the students, provide hands on training for handling technicalities of Print, Electronic and New Media and apprise them of various Sports and their different aspects. The Department conducts regular lectures for its students, possesses varied study material, has state of the art information and communication laboratory and regularly invites media stalwarts from the industry for guest lectures. The department has already proposed to start a three year under graduate programme – BA (JMC) with specialization in sports journalism, which shall give an opportunity to students to acquire professional skills of writing, speaking, designing and thereby work as reporters, anchors, RJs, writers, video journalists with news channels and print media organizations. To shape future Sports Journalists for Print, Electronic and Web Media. To ensure that the students of the department have equal exposure to various sports as well as contemporary trends in various mass mediums. To establish the institution as one of its kind educational destination in India to shape Sports Anchors, Reporters, RJs ,Photographers, Videographers , Sports Content Writers and producers. To nurture and hone the inherent latent creative skills of students and make them professionally competent for media industry. The Department has started short video series under the title- TALKING POINT. The series shoot and produced in campus, raises issues related to sports, highlights achievements of Indian sportspersons and discusses varied facets of sports industry in India. To organize One day special Lectures on Effective Communication( Oral and Written)- Open for anyone interested To organize One Day National Seminar on ‘Sports Journalism in India’. To organize 2 One Day Workshops on Sports Journalism. To produce Documentaries on different games every year.(Student Project work) To organize photo Exhibition on Traditional games of Gujarat.
