ESI PGIMSR and Model Hospital Cum O.D.C, Andhari (E), Mumbai

The Employees State Insurance Corporation took a decision in 2008 to start undergraduate & Postgraduate teaching programmes in the hospitals under ESIC. Accordingly ESI-PGIMSR was established in 2009 at ESIC MODEL Hospital with renovation, moderniza at ESIC MODEL Hospital with renovation, modernization, appointment of teaching faculty, specialists, super-specialists, senior residents and application to Medical Council of India & Maharashtra University of Health Science for approval to start Post graduate courses in Gen. Surgery, Anaesthesia, Orthopedic, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry. This is the first endeavor in the field of Medical Education, which is a new dimension in the growth of ESIC. Approval for starting the Post Graduate Courses w.e.f the academic year 2011-12 has been obtained from Medical Council of India(MCI), Board of Governers and MUHS, Nashik for statring PG Courses(MD/MS) in Pediatrics, Pathology, Anaesthesia and OBGY. This Institute is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science, www.muhsnashik.com ESI-PGIMSR has a well established ESIC Model Hospital, which is located within the premises. ESIC has introduced medical education into its existing system of comprehensive health care and started UG/PG courses in some of the ESI Hospitals including ESI-PGIMSR Model Hospital, Andheri, Mumbai. With the permission from Medical Council Of India(MCI), Board of Governance and MUHS, Nashik ESI-PGIMSR, Andheri came into existence from the academic year 2011-2012 and is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik. We have started PG courses in four specialties viz. MD Anaesthesia, MD Paediatrics, MD Pathology and MS Obstetrics & Gynaecology. ESI PGIMSR, has 10.74 acre area and is being upgraded to 550 beds with the state of the art Operation theatres, ICU, ICCU, SICU, NICU, PICU and latest facilities i.e. CT, MRI, C-Arm, and well equipped laboratories of Pathology, Biochemistry & Microbiology. Under project Panchadeep the Institute will be fully computerized and will be connected to other ESI Health Institutes throughout India. Hence ESI beneficiaries can have health care facilities anytime and anywhere in India. The institute has excellent teaching faculty and with their expertise and guidance the postgraduate students will become competent specialist and teachers with awareness of contemporary advances and developments in the field of their specialty. With the expertise of teaching faculty the quality of health care can be provided in their own ESI hospital and referral to other hospital will be avoided. Further next year we have applied for increase of PG seats as well as for starting fresh PG courses in other specialties viz. General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Ophthalmology and Radiodiagnosis. We aim to equip our students with knowledge and information essential to make them complete clinicians sensitive to their environment having adequate capacity to respond to all challenges. As educators we instill the value of caring in the students providing them with knowledge and skill to function at the top of their chosen fields.
