Shree Mahalakshmi District Institute of Education and Training is first women teaching institute of Gujarat was established in 9thcentury in Ahmedabad. To prepare women teachers for the development of girls’ education, the first female normal schoo girls’ education, the first female normal school was started in 1870. After one year, this institute became female training school. After three years on 21st August 1874, this institute was known as female training institute. Well- known industrialist and social reformer Mr. Bechardas Ambaidas Lashkari, added his daughter’s name ‘Mahalakshmi’ with this institute by donating Rs.10000 and this institute was named as Shree Mahalakshmi Training Institute for women. Lady Superintendent Kumari Chembarlen was the first director of this institute. Now this institute is known as District Institute of Education and Training. The DIET was established at district level under the New Education Policy of 1986 for the universalization of education and the quality expansion. Mission of District Institute of Education and Training, Raikhad is 'to foster critical analysis by training students both in theory and practice so as to equip them with skills needed for facing global challenges with team work and human values.
