Manonmaniam Sundaranar University established on September 7, 1990 proudly harbours the Department of Biotechnology since 2007 which has excellent infrastructure facilities for research in the field of Cancer Biology, Microbial, Vermi Biotechnology, f Cancer Biology, Microbial, Vermi Biotechnology, Phage Therapy, Bioprocess Technology and Regenerative Biology with the aid of 3.5 crores of research funds obtained from funding agencies viz., DBT, DST, CSIR, ICMR, UGC. The department has been supported by UGC Non-SAP. All the faculty members of the department have established their research contacts with those experts working in the similar areas in National and International levels. The students trained at this department are well placed in National and International organizations, industries etc. One of the most interesting and complicated whole genome sequencing of earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae is carried out in our department. Research is been attempted to utilize phages for therapeutic purposes. Emphasize is also provided in converting the organic wastes into manure through employment of earthworms especially Eudrilus eugeniae in the department as an eco-friendly approach.
