The Department of Psychology was established in November 1989, and was the first Psychology department in Gujarat to implement new syllabus suggested by the UGC Curriculum Development Committee (CDC) Report. The founder head of the Department is Dr. Report. The founder head of the Department is Dr. D.J Bhatt and currently headed by Dr. Y. A. Jogsan. The distinctive academic feature of this Department is that it offers Clinical Psychology as a specialty and adopts an inter-disciplinary approach in teaching and research due to which it has significantly contributed to the areas of Psychological Testing and extension activities. The Department is infra-structurally sound with facilities for seminars, audio- visual teaching aids, a well-equipped laboratory, a computer lab and WIFI enabled classrooms. The Department offers full-time M.A. (4 semesters), Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Counseling (2 Semesters) and Ph.D. programs. It has 2 highly qualified and competent full-time faculties and 2 contractual faculty besides having a visiting teacher. The Department has to its credit more than 500 published research papers and 60 books till date. It has received about 25 national fellowships and 9 UGC minor research projects and 1 major research project completed by its faculty members. 80 researchers have been awarded Ph.D. till date.Dr. Yogesh A. Department of Psychology Received three World Records. The Department has its own library with more than 600 titles and computer lab. The research thrust areas of this Department are: Psychological Testing and Evaluation, Clinical and Social Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Research Methodology, Psychology of Emotion, Cognitive Psychology, Rehabilitaion Psychology, Neuropsychology, Psychol-Pathology, Applied Psychology, Health Psychology, Personality Psychology, Stress Management, Behavior Modification, Counseling and Organizational Behavior. In 2016 the Department has introduced new syllabus for M.A. and M.Phil. Courses., in 2019 the Department has introduced new syllabus for M.A.& M.Phi. from 2023 Department start New Diploma Course for Counseling. Only one Department on Campus Do Counseling in Corona Pandemic Lockdown. For This Service Dr. Yogesh Jogsan, Dr. Dhara R. Doshi, Dr. Dimpal Ramani, Dr. Hasmukh Chavda and other Senior Students of Department Received Honored by Collector and District Magistrate of Rajkot and Botad.
