Sri Aurobindo College (Evening) is a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It was established in 1984, and opened its doors to women students in 1988. The college is named after the nationalist, reformer and philosopher Sri Aurobindo Ghose. ist, reformer and philosopher Sri Aurobindo Ghose. Established on the motto Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya, translated as ‘Lead me from darkness to light’, the college has grown into a leading educational institution. The college is committed to fulfilling the vision of Sri Aurobindo Ghose by imparting holistic education and knowledge to students for development of the body, mind and soul based on traditional Indian values. We strive to imbue the teaching/learning process with a unique blend of intellectual rigor and aesthetic and ethical engagement. The pedagogical aim is to develop a community of learners driven by excellence and self-actualization, ready and willing to contribute to the community and society. The college is a NAAC accredited Grade B+ institution. The college has also been placed amongst the top 150 Higher Education Institutions on Performance by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry for Human Resource Development. With a good score in three broad parameters of Teaching, Learning and Resources, Graduation Outcomes and Outreach and Inclusivity the college has maintained its position for the past three years. It has a present student strength of 2100 and offers courses in Humanities, Social Sciences and Commerce. The college has a digitized library, a career guidance and placement cell, grievance cell and a hygienic canteen. The college has a central location in Block B, Shivalik Colony, Malviya Nagar. It is well connected by Delhi's public bus transport system and is a ten minutes’ walk from the Malviya Nagar Metro station. The lush green campus is spread over 3 acres of land and is buzzing with student energy and creativity. The college has made huge strides over the last 37 years with its emphasis on holistic academic and extracurricular education. Our pedagogical philosophy combines the best of tradition with modernity to create an inclusive and diverse teaching and learning environment. The college welcomes students from across the country and acknowledges gender diversity as a natural fact of human existence. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is visible in different committees such as the Equal Opportunity Cell, the committee for North East Students and the Gender Sensitization Cell. The student chapter of Enactus helps to inculcate the spirit of social entrepreneurship with a specific focus on women empowerment. The college has also established international connections through regular participation in programs such as Project X-Culture, at the University of North Carolina, USA. Student participants and the faculty advisor have regularly won laurels in this global experiential learning project, which spans 500 universities across the globe. It is a matter of pride that we are the only college in the university to be a part of this global venture since 2013. Besides academic excellence, the college ensures the holistic development of its students through regular participation in NCC, NSS and sports activities. The college nurtures diverse talent through different extra- curricular activities like dance, music, theatre, debates, and other literary and cultural activities. Student talent is honed on different society platforms such as the Debating society, Music Society, Nukkad Natak Society, Aurobindo Vichar Manch, The Commerce Society, Samta- Women Development cell, and Gender Championship Cell and so on.
