Our mission is to be the UK's leading university for students aspiring to succeed in business and the professions, where original research, enterprise and inspiring teaching deliver local and global impact. Students from over 120 countries choose to study at Aston University - a safe and friendly campus enjoyed by a global, multicultural community. Birmingham is on of the UK's most diverse cities and home to an unrivalled cultural heritage, top sporting events, music, performing arts and outstanding world cuisine. The Aston University campus is located on a green, 60-acre, self-contained site in the centre of Birmingham, within 5-10 minutes walk of the main shopping, business and entertainment areas of the city. You’ll find a number of facilities in this friendly space, including cafes, a supermarket, and places to meet, study and get healthy. Over the past year we have explored possible scenarios for our future within our city, our region, and more broadly within the national and international context. How we might navigate the challenges of economic uncertainty, the changing nature of work, business and trade due to digital transformation, digital inclusion, health inequity, climate crisis and global unrest, just to name a few. How to prepare our students for work and life, within an increasingly complex and uncertain world, and how to help our communities thrive in the face of all these challenges. Our 2030 strategy emerged from many workshops, reviews and conversations about our purpose and aspirations, changed operating environment, and the challenges and opportunities ahead. The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Forum is Chaired by the Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor (Diversity and Inclusion) and has representatives from across the University. It meets five times each academic year. We aim to support the wellbeing of all students and staff through our policies, procedures and support services. It is important to us that staff and students feel safe and able to communicate any concerns, and are easily able to find appropriate support and guidance when needed. We know first-hand the essential work that our technicians carry out across our school and support services, and 2020 has proven without a doubt that our technical staff make an impact not only throughout the University, but also society. Our students too, agree that the support and innovation our technician staff provide is no small part of the great student experience we aim to offer. Becoming a signatory of the technician commitment is how Aston hopes to go some way to recognise the inspiring work of our technical staff. In response to the growing pressures of climate change and the rapidly changing socio-economic landscape, both in the UK and globally, we recognize the critical need to integrate sustainable practices into our core operations. ...view more
