Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. S Satyanarayana on Tuesday promised the upgradation and infrastructural development of the Centre for Indian Ocean Studies. He assured that the centre would be developed as a centre of excellence in the regi be developed as a centre of excellence in the region of Indian Ocean countries. The VC was releasing the golden jubilee issue of the Indian Ocean Digest, the biannual academic research journal of the Centre, at a special function at the centre in the university campus. He lauded the efforts of the centre Director Prof R SiddaGoud in proposing to launch the intentional programmes and had assured him of all necessary help in developing a conference hall and additional classrooms and in organizing the proposed international conference. Prof Satyanarayana stated that the Indian Ocean Studies Centre would soon be developed into a world class centre for multi-disciplinary studies. UGCDean Prof. A Ravindranath , who was the guest of honour at the function, said that the centre deserved increased funding as it had completed 25 years and there was a great scope for phenomenal expansion of the centre. He assured the centre’s director of all required help from the UGC in releasing grants for the massive expansion of the centre in infrastructure wise and faculty recruitment. Listing out the proposals, centre director Prof R SiddaGoud said that the centre was in immediate need of additional classrooms and a state-of-the art conference hall as the international conference is round the corner. He said the centre proposes to launch diploma course in disaster management. OUTA president Prof B Satyanarayana, Senior Professors T L N Swamy, Mallesham, Krishna Rao, Nagabhushanam, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Ramdas, Prasad, Shiva Kumar and others were present. On the occasion an occasional paper titled “ Impact of Global Warming on Indian Ocean Countries” written by Prof R SiddaGoud was also released by the VC.
