India, blessed with its diversity of culture and religions, has been the fortunate and fertile soil in which the seed of the ICM charism was sown in the year 1897 by our Mother Foundress, Marie Louise De Meester. With joy and gratitude we remember al De Meester. With joy and gratitude we remember all the sisters and collaborators who walked in the footsteps of our Foundress during the past years. The inspiring words of our Foundress We foresee, we plan, we hope. But it is God who directs our lives which enable us to transcend the ethnic differences, socio economic classes and religious prejudices in the present context of the society. ICM congregation has its foundations in Mulagumoodu, Tamilnadu in 1897. It is indeed the growth of a mustard seed into the biggest of all plants where in the sweet-singing international birds of nearly 14 countries find place. ICM Sisters are known for their dedication and commitment to different services namely Embroidery and Lace making through which less previleged women are uplifted. Education to the children and youth through schools and colleges, education of the visually impaired and hearing impaired children and rehabilitation of adults, medical service through dispensary and hospital and social services- reaching the unreached. Sisters and collaborators in ICM Educational Institutions are appreciated in different parts of India because they are the pioneers to educate the girl children. They inculcate human values, respect human dignity, treat the children and staff kindly and respond to the signs of time. The Ignatius Educational Institutions in Palayamkottai have powerfully recorded the teaching ministry in the urban section. Treading on the footsteps of St. Ignatius of Loyola and realizing the significant role that Education plays in transforming the youth and the whole Nation, our Congregation gears all the efforts towards enabling the students who come under the benevolent and beneficial folds of the institutions to develop in all walks of life - emotional, intellectual and skill oriented dimensions. The Ultimate goal is to make them worthy and resourceful. All I.C.M. Institutions are challenged to make Educational Ministry a Weapon to Carve the Values of the Kingdom, Love, Justice, Peace and Truth into the Society, and to weave the Values of Universal Brotherhood and Sisterhood into the fabric of Social Structure. In the Process the aim of education has been formulated in such a way as to comprise in it, and to implement through it the Mission and Vision of the Congregation. Hence the aim of the College of Education is to develop in the Women teacher trainees a broad vision of interest, a love of knowledge good aesthetic taste, Interest in their fellow men, concern for the advancement of our Country. and perception of themselves as part of the whole world. Such an integrated personality, would equip them with all skills required for the mission of Social change and social Justice. In order to promote such objectives through curricular and co-curricular transactions, the Congregation is very particular in selecting potential, teachers and studious learners as primary stake holders, so that the secondary stake holders - Parents, Beneficiaries, Well - Wishers, and N.G.O.s would be drawn into the machinery of the institution's functioning.St.Ignatius Training College for Women was established on 2nd July 1957, beginning in the upper block of St. Ignatius’ Convent High School with support from the model school. Officially inaugurated on 29th July 1957 and affiliated with Madras University, the college was led by Sr. Stephane, the founding Principal, with a team of five faculty members and 37 students. Rooted in the vision of its Foundress, the college has grown into a beacon of Women’s Education. The Institution is committed to developing teachers with integrity, social commitment, emotional maturity, and ethical values. Its inclusive admission policy embraces students from marginalized sectors, transcending barriers of creed and community. Emphasizing child-centered, activity-based, techno-savy and experiential learning, the college integrates philosophical, psychological, and sociological principles into its teaching. Education is viewed as a process of cultivating scientific inquiry, balanced judgment, and social justice. With the collaborative efforts of the Management and Governing Board, the college ensures efficient use of resources and high-quality support services. Thousands of alumni have graduated, living out the college’s motto, “Virtue is our Strongest Shield”, and making a lasting impact by empowering future generations through the transformative power of education Recognized as a Grant-in-aid institution under the UGC and NCTE, St. Ignatius College of Education has had a progressive affiliation journey, starting with Madras University in 1957, followed by Madurai Kamaraj University in 1967, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 1990, and Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University since 2008 Accredited by NAAC with consistently high grades, including an A+ Grade (CGPA 3.42) in 2023, the college earned autonomous status in 2009. Thanks to the steadfast commitment of the ICM management, St. Ignatius College of Education continues to uphold its legacy, empowering women and advancing the cause of education.
