Birsa Munda Tribal University (BMTU)

To establish and incorporate a teaching university in the state of Gujarat to be known as the Birsa Munda Tribal University at Rajpipla District, Narmada, to develop flexible and innovative academic and research programs in emerging areas, with sp and research programs in emerging areas, with special reference to the tribal population of Gujarat, Birsa Munda Tribal University was established by Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar with Act-15 since April-2017. The university was formally started since October-2017 at Rajpipla Dist: Narmada. Objectives of the University: The primary objective of the University shall be to create equitable multiple socio-economic growth centers of excellence besides the following objective, namely:- i. To provide avenues of higher education and research facilities primarily for the tribal population of the State of Gujarat; ii. To develop different patterns of teaching for certificate or diploma courses, under graduate and post-graduate courses and at Doctoral & Post Doctoral levels and to maintain a high standard of education; iii. To establish Centers of Excellence or independent research centre(s), museums, etc…, to impart the knowledge of Tribal Traditions, Tribal Art and Culture, Tribal Language; to promote traditional food, Live Stock, Dairy Development, Organic Farming, Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Science, Eco-tourism, Agriculture, Farming, Minor Forest Produce(MFP), Ayurvedic Traditional Medicines, Marketing, Business Management and Forest related and other skills of various tribes including PVTG in Gujarat; iv. To formulate tribal centric development model; publish reports and monographs; to organise conferences, seminars, etc…, on issues relating to tribes; to provide inputs with regard to policy matters in different spheres to the State Government; To take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching-learning processes in the interdisciplinary studies and research; vi. To establish close linkage with the industry to make teaching, research, entrepreneurship and training at the University relevant to the needs of the society at national and global levels; vii. To collaborate with national and international universities/ organisations, especially for undertaking cultural studies and research on tribal communities; viii. To provide facilities for Tribal Management Studies; ix. To establish, maintain modern skills and vocational training centers; To provide access to education in the areas of technical, skill based, vocational, management, tourism, tribal arts, culture and traditional value system and other related areas for faster growth in the tribal areas; to provide instructional and research facilities in tribal art, culture, tradition, language medicinal systems, forest based economic activities, flora and fauna and advancement in technologies relating to the natural resources of tribal areas and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.  Since June-2018, three Constituent Colleges (School of Arts, Commerce and Science) and (Boys-Girls Hostels) were started at Rajpipla, Dist: Narmada.  469 students have got admissions including first, second and third year.  Total 323 students have taken admissions in Boys and Girls Hostels.  Total 39 acres of land has been allocated by Government of Gujarat at Jitnagar, Rajpipla, Dist: Narmada.  For the construction of proposed main campus, total Rs.341 Crore has been proposed.  Total Rs.147 Crore has been allocated by Tribal Development Department, Gandhinagar, Government of Gujarat and Rs.10 Crore allotted by Government of India.
