Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (popularly known as BMC) was started in the year 1955 by Dr. Shivram and Dr. Mekhri. It was initially run by Mysore Education Society as a private medical college. The college was later handed over to cal college. The college was later handed over to the Government of Karnataka in 1956 and was affiliated to Bangalore University. In the year 1996 it got affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Being the only government medical college in Bangalore, it is one of the most sought-after colleges of the country.
