About ATSVS Siddha Medical College
This sangam was founded by late Nithyananda Swamigal. He visited different places and studied the feasibility and suitability for establishing a Siddha Medical Gurukulam and found Munchirai to be the best and carried out his mission here. The Swamigal established a Siddha Medical Diploma College, Hospital, Pharmacy and an herbal garden. Later on, the sangam grew auspiciously where the institution got itself upgraded to an Undergraduate Siddha Medical College in the year 1996 under the president ship of Thiru T. Mohan Raj. The college is presently administered by Justice A. Ramamurthi, Former Judge, Madras High court as Interim Administrator and Dr. T. PaulDurai ManiMozhian M.D (S) as principal. The College office functions from 9.30 in the morning till 5.30 in the evening. The office is computerized with internet facility. For any Queries the office can be contacted during the working hours. The scope for those who opt for BSMS Course is vide and has expanded to various extents since its inception. After Completion of this course a candidate can register his name in Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical council and his name gets automatically enrolled in the Register of Practitioners of Central Council of Indian Medicine which makes him eligible to practice siddha medicine in any part of India. The Tamil Nadu state Government appoints BSMS qualified Siddha Doctors in Government Hospitals and Primary Health centers all over Tamil Nadu every year depending on the number of vacancies. This recruitment is done through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. National Rural Health Mission also appoints Siddha Doctors in its project in various Government Hospitals. Opportunities are also available in Hospitals and pharmaceuticals run by private sectors apart from that the Practitioner can run his own clinics/Hospitals. Post Graduate courses in siddha are available known as M.D(S) (Doctor of Medicine in Siddha) in different specialization areas. Presently these courses are offered by National Institute of Siddha, Tambaram, Chennai run by Central Government, (Department of Ayush) and Govt Siddha Medical Colleges in Chennai and Tirunelveli which are run by Tamil Nadu State Government. After completing the post graduate degree a person can opt for teaching in Government or Private Siddha Medical Institutions.
