Snehodaya College of Nursing is a new venture of Sacred Heart Mission Hospital Trust, which is owned and managed by the Congregation of Samaritan Sisters, the Snehodaya Province. It aims at preparing the youth as excellent nurses based on Christian a the youth as excellent nurses based on Christian and moral values. The college has got excellent infrastructure, well established laboratories and library and experienced teaching faculty. Beside the parent hospital, the college is affiliated to Medical college hospital and other super speciality hospitals in and around Thrissur District. Along with academic activities, emphasis is given to the personal and professional development of students through co- curricular activities. The College is located in a serene atmosphere, which is easily approachable by train or bus. G.N.M. Course is conducted by S.H. School of Nursing since 1981. The congregation of Samaritan Sisters established in the year 1961 by Late Msgr. Paul Chittilappilly with a view to care for the sick and the afflicted especially the lepers. In 1950’s, Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala was also a place of leprosy. Large number of lepers began to flock to Thrissur town for begging even from the neighbouring states. The multitude of lepers became the cause of great head ache to the people as well as civil authorities and the police officers were beating and chasing these lepers. Msgr. Paul Chittilappilly was a chemistry Lecturer of St. Thomas College, Thrissur at that time. He observed this pathetic situation and was deeply moved by this sccene. He decided to provide shelter and minister for these patients. Thus Damien Institute was established during the year 1957 at Mulayam, Thrissur. Initially, three sisters from the congregation of the sisters of charity came forward for caring these leprosy patients. Later when the number of patients increased and scarcity of caretakers was felt, Msgr. Paul Chittilappilly was enlightened by the Holy Spirit to start a new congregation with the special charism of the poor, the sick and the afflicted. The motto of the congregation is “ go and do likewise like the Good Samaritan. The congregation of Samaritan sisters officially instituted on 25th January, 1961. Our Founder Father Msgr. Paul Chittilappilly was a man gifted with tenacity of purpose, great trust in the divine providence and mercy towards the poor, the sick and the afflicted, especially towards the lepors. He has fought an unrelenting battle against hunger, pain, ignorance and inertia. He has gone for his eternal reward on 12th March, 1981. The Congregation of Samaritan Sisters are mainly engaged in the socio medical apostolate. We are running dispensaries, mobile clinics hospitals, old age homes, health care centres for the AIDS and terminally ill patients. We also have rehabilitation for the mentally ill patients. Besides we are undertaking education of the mentally and physically challenged children. We impart nursing education both G.N.M. as well as B.Sc. Nursing.Sacred Heart Mission Hospital was established in the year 1967 by Msgr. Paul Chitilappilly with the intention of attending to the health care needs of the suffering humanity in and around irinjalakuda. It is a 250 beded multi speciality hospital with general as well as speciality departments. School of Nursing attached to the hospital was started by the Founder Father Msgr. Paul Chitilappilly in the year 1981 with the aim of imparting nursing education and train young girls as excellent nurses to care for the sick. He assured that the education should be based on Christian Values.
