P.K.R. Arts College for Women, affiliated to Bharathiar University is an unaided Autonomous Arts and Science college. It had been founded with a vision to empower rural women and has been managed by Dhandapani Rural Charitable Trust since 1994. The c handapani Rural Charitable Trust since 1994. The college is located in a beautiful locale, surrounded by hillocks and green fields providing a serene and pleasant atmosphere for learning. The college is dedicated to the everlasting memory of late Thiru. Kalimudhaliar, who had the noble vision of educating the masses. Unfortunately, he was not able to realise his dream during his life- time and the responsibility had passed on to his grandson, late Thiru P.R. Natarajan, founder Correspondent of this college. Inspired by his grandfather’s ideals, he dedicated his life to enlighten the rural women by starting a women’s college on the name of his father Late Thiru.P.K. Ramasamy and this college was born of such a consistent effort to realise the vision of Late Thiru Kalimudhaliar and christened as P.K.R. Arts College for Women.The Management’s tireless efforts have resulted in getting affiliation for more number of new courses every year. With strenuous efforts and progressive results, the college now offers 12 Under Graduate, 8 Post-Graduate, 7 M.Phil. and 6 Ph D., research Programmes. As on date, there are 106 teaching staff members and 2,227 students on the roll. There are 7 Departments and 59 class-rooms in the college. Every Department has adequate number of computers with internet facility. The class-rooms are quite spacious, well ventilated and well furnishedThe college library has a diverse collection of 31,539 books along with various National and International Journals and Newspapers. The audio-visual section houses CDROMs, audio and video tapes and cassettes pertaining to different subjects. The library is automated with OPAC of library holdings. It has 22 Wi-Fi enabled systems. The library remains open throughout the week.The college has four well equipped laboratories including two computer laboratories with 526 terminals and internet facility to undertake practical work and research studies in various disciplines like Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science. The Digital Language Lab enables the students to improve their English communication skills. The entire college campus is Wi-Fi enabled.The faculty members are encouraged by the College Management to organise and attend seminars, conferences, work-shops and symposiums. They are also motivated to pursue their research, to do Major / Minor Projects and publish articles. The college publishes bi-annual news-letters and magazines every year. The class-room teaching is highly interactive through paper presentation, assignments and virtual study tours. Every year around 20 students used to get university ranks in the university examinations, before the college had become an autonomous institute. The college has a separate placement cell which helps the students to get placed after completing their studies. IBM conducts placement training classes for the Post-Graduate students. The college conducts CA (Foundation Course) coaching classes for the students who are aspiring to become chartered accountants.Sports and games, being the next best activity of the college, are encouraged by the Management and the students have continuously brought many laurels to the institution. The college stands second in sports and games amongst institutions affiliated to Bharathiar University. For the past 20 consecutive years, the college has bagged the First place in Kabbadi and 8 consecutive years First place in Hockey. The college has received Best NSS Programme officer Award, Best NSS Unit Award, Best NSS Volunteer Award and Best Magazine Award.The college has a homely hostel facility which accommodates 700 students. Ramp and Lift facilities are available for the physically challenged students. An ATM centre has been set up within the campus. To provide FIRST AID, the college has a Health Centre. National festivals and Religious functions are celebrated to inculcate patriotic feeling and traditional values among students. Every year the college conducts Graduation Ceremony, Alumnae and Parents meet. The college had been accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in 2013 again re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in 2018. Further an Autonomous Status had been granted by the UGC in 2017.
