Madhusudan Law University (MLU)

The Madhusudan Law University has been established on the birth anniversary of Madhusudan Das on 28th April, 2021. The University started its official functioning on the same day, under the guidance and vision of the founding vice chancellor Prof. (D nd vision of the founding vice chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Kamal Jeet Singh. The Post Graduate Department of Law was first established at the Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack in the year 1973 and was later shifted to the Utkal University Campus in 1975. Prof (Dr.) S.K. Ghose was the first HOD of the Post Graduate Department of Law and currently, the Department is headed by Dr. Manoj Kumar Sadual. Prof. K D Gour joined as Professor in the year 1975 along with Dr. Indira Panda, Dr. M.A.A. Baig, Dr. R.N. Pattnaik and Dr. D C Mohapatra as faculty members. In the year 1986, Dr. A Praharaj, Dr. Kulamani Jena and Dr. P C Mishra joined as Reader in the Department. During the year 1989, Prof P K Sarkar joined as Reader and Prof. P K Pattnaik joined as Reader in 2004. In the year 2010, Dr. M. S. Dash was appointed as Reader in the Department. Dr. G. K. Sahu joined as Assistant Professor in 2014. Dr. M.K. Sadual joined as Reader in the year 2015 and Prof (Dr.) S K Nanda joined this Department in the year 2022. Currently the Department offers Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Business Law, Constitution Law and Criminal Law. Further to bring excellence in legal research and development, this Department acts as the center for research and offers Ph.D. Course work for the prospective legal researchers and scholars. To provide the students with the knowledge, skill, values, and sensitivity necessary for a successful citizen. To create and disseminate knowledge through interdisciplinary research and creative inquiry in developing a meaningful and sustainable society. To equip the students with problem-solving, leadership and teamwork skills and inculcate a sense of commitment to quality, ethical behaviour and respect for others. To provide a platform for free flow of ideas where discovery, creativity, and professional development find scope for fulfilment in making the world a better place to live in. To ensure academic excellence in this dynamic knowledge economy by exposing the students to new ideas, new ways of understanding, new ways of knowing in their journey of intellectual transformation. From 28th April, 2021 all government and private law colleges of Odisha, other than constituent law college of universities will be affiliated with Madhusudan Law University Cuttack. Right now, the Madhusudan Law University is housed in the same campus which was earlier known as erstwhile Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack. The administration of the University has plans to expand its campus and further establish the Academic Block, Administrative Block, Library, Hostels, Conference Hall, Auditorium, Health Center, Gymnasium, Moot Court cum Seminar Halls, Sports Area, Residential Area, etc The Madhusudan Law University has been established on the birth anniversary of Madhusudan Das on 28th April, 2021.
