Founded on June 10, 1891, by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar, the college appointed Mr. E.C. Cholmondeley, an Oxford University graduate and Bar-at-law, as its first Principal. Initially affiliated with Calcutta University, it later moved to Allahabad University in 1904 and is currently affiliated with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), an A++ NAAC-rated university in Indore.
This legendary journey of Holkar Science Institution had been due to the apostle of the dedication of 34 heads of the institution, who stewarded this institution with knowledge and value-based education. Today, under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Suresh T. Silawat, the institution has scaled newer heights in all round development.
In its nascent years, the institution offered a diverse range of courses encompassing English Literature, Sanskrit, Persian, Logic, History, Political Economy, Mathematics, and Science.
